Jewelry Care from the Designer's Perspective

How to Keep Your Kunyu Jewelry Looking Its Best
By Alice, Senior Jewelry Designer & Creative Lead at Kunyu Jewelry

I have always believed that proper jewelry care is part of the product experience. At Kunyu Jewelry, we put considerable attention into casting, polishing, hand assembly, stone setting, and surface finishing. But even well-made jewelry will respond to how it is worn, cleaned, and stored.

For our customers—especially jewelry brands, retailers, and wholesale

buyers—proper care is also important because it directly affects customer

satisfaction and the long-term appearance of the product.

Start with Good Wearing Habits

Most plated fashion jewelry does not require complicated maintenance. In my experience, avoiding unnecessary exposure to moisture and chemicals makes the biggest difference.

I recommend removing jewelry before showering, swimming, exercising, or sleeping. Perfume, body lotion, hair products, detergents, and other chemicals should also be kept away from the jewelry surface whenever possible.

For hip hop chains, Cuban link bracelets, pendants, and stone-set pieces, repeated contact with sweat and chemicals can gradually affect the surface finish and reduce its original shine.

Keep Cleaning Simple

For routine cleaning, a soft, dry microfiber cloth is usually sufficient. Gently wipe away fingerprints, dust, and surface residue without applying excessive pressure.

For pieces with CZ stones, avoid aggressive brushing and abrasive cleaners. Strong polishing products can also be unsuitable for plated jewelry. A cleaner designed for solid precious metal is not necessarily appropriate for a plated fashion jewelry surface.

The basic rule is simple: clean gently, avoid abrasion, and do not over-treat the surface.

Storage Is Part of Jewelry Care

Chains and bracelets can rub against each other when stored together, causing unnecessary surface wear. I recommend keeping individual pieces in a soft pouch or lined box and storing them somewhere dry and away from direct sunlight.

For wholesale and private-label customers, packaging deserves the same consideration. Good packaging is not only about presentation; it also helps protect jewelry during shipping, warehouse storage, and handling before it reaches the final customer.

A Practical Point for B2B Buyers

For jewelry brands and retailers, providing simple care instructions can improve the customer experience and reduce avoidable after-sales issues. A small care card inside the package is often enough.

Kunyu Jewelry works with different finishes, including gold, silver, antique gold, antique silver, rose gold, and customized plating colors. Care recommendations may vary according to the specific surface treatment, so we suggest matching the instructions to the actual product rather than applying one standard rule to every collection.

As a designer, I see jewelry care as the continuation of craftsmanship. We control the quality during production; the wearer determines how that quality is maintained afterward.
